Biography

Mr. Corwin, the principal of the firm, received his Bachelor of Arts degree and graduated with Departmental Honors in History from UCLA in 1985. At UCLA he was awarded both a Chancellor’s Scholarship and Alumni Scholarship. Mr. Corwin was a member of the Dean’s Honor List and Phi Alpha Theta, the International History Honors Society while at UCLA. Mr. Corwin received his Juris Doctorate from the USC Gould School of Law in 1990. In law school he was a member of the Dean’s Honor List, nominated to the National Dean’s List, a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and served as a Delegate to its Biennial National Convention.

Mr. Corwin was born and raised in Los Angeles and resides with his wife and son in Pacific Palisades.

Professional Affiliations

Mr. Corwin serves as a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Association for Justice (AAJ), Trial Lawyers for Public Justice (TLPJ), Consumer Attorneys Of California (CAOC), the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), in which he is a lifetime sustaining member, the American Bar Association (ABA), the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA), in which he is a member of the Litigation Section, the Western Trial Lawyers Association (WTLA), the Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA), and The National Trial Lawyers Association (The NTLA).

Mr. Corwin has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Consumer Attorneys of California since November 2006. CAOC is the California statewide organization of more than 3,000 attorneys who represent injured consumers who are victims of negligence and intentional conduct by corporate and individual wrongdoers. CAOC’s mission includes preserving the right to trial by jury, prevention of injury through concerted efforts to secure safe products, a safe workplace, a clean environment, and quality health care, and to uphold the honor and dignity of the legal profession and the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity. In his capacity as a member of the Board of Governors of CAOC, Mr. Corwin continues his fight to protect the civil justice system and to provide access to justice for all. He also sits on the CAOC Legislative, Bylaws, Elections and Budget Committees, as well as the Small Case Task Force Sub Committee.

Mr. Corwin has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles since January 2005. Mr. Corwin is a member of the CAALA Governmental Relations Committee and the ad hoc Insurance Company Task Force, where he serves as the Task Force’s liason to the CAOC Board. Mr. Corwin has been appointed to serve an unprecedented fifth term as the Chair of the CAALA Political Action Committee, for 2011. Mr. Corwin previously served as the Chair from 2005-2007 and 2009-2010. During his tenure he has raised over $500,000 for the CAALA PAC and more than quintupled its membership. Mr. Corwin also serves as a member of the CAALA Governmental Relations, Public Relations and Education Committees.

Mr. Corwin is honored to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Western Trial Lawyers Association for 2010-11. This organization was founded in 1966 and has always been dedicated to the proposition of advancing the cause of justice in the representation of clients in personal injury claims. Members of the Western Trial Lawyers Association are proud to call themselves trial lawyers and are recognized for the years of advanced education and practice necessary to achieve such recognition.

Mr. Corwin is a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA) where he serves as a member of the Ethics Committee, Law & Justice Committee, Legislation Committee, Minority & Diversity Committee, Litigation Section, Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and Homeless Project Barristers Committee. Mr. Corwin also serves as a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association’s Pro-Bono Mandatory Fee Arbitration Panel.

Consumer Advocate

As a tireless consumer advocate, Mr. Corwin has worked continuously to protect the civil justice system, consumer rights and victims of corporate malfeasance, by helping to elect members to the California State Legislature, the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives who seek to preserve our system of civil justice. To this end, Mr. Corwin has raised over $1.5 million for candidates for local, state and federal offices since 2004.

Mr. Corwin is currently a Silver Member of the Consumer Attorneys of California Advocates Club as well as a Gold Member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles PAC. Both of these organizations use their resources to protect consumer rights and the civil justice system.

Awards & Honors

Mr. Corwin has been selected a Southern California SuperLawyer for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 by Los Angeles Magazine. Only 5% of attorneys are selected for this honor. SuperLawyers are selected for attaining a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement in their field of expertise. SuperLawyers are nominated through a survey of Southern California lawyers and then final selections are made by a blue ribbon review panel of leading attorneys.

Mr. Corwin was selected in 2010 as a life member of the prestigious national organization, The National Trial Lawyers Association (NTLA). The NTLA is composed of the top 100 trial lawyers from each state. Membership is obtained through special invitation and is extended only to those attorneys who exemplify superior qualifications of leadership, reputation, influence, stature and profile as civil plaintiff or criminal defense trial lawyers. It is the mission of The NTLA to promote excellence in the legal profession through practical educational programs, networking opportunities and legal publications that deal with current issues facing the American trial lawyer. Mr. Corwin is a member of the Multi‑Million Dollar Advocates Forum, which is recognized as the most prestigious group of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million and multimillion dollar verdicts, awards and settlements. There are less than 700 members nationwide. Forum membership acknowledges excellence in advocacy.

Mr. Corwin was honored for outstanding contributions to the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles for an unprecedented four years with CAALA Presidential Awards for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010.

Mr. Corwin was inducted into the Presidential Who’s Who of Professionals and Business Executives in 2010 as a Life Member.  Attorney inductees are nationally recognized for contributions to the legal community.

Court Admissions

Mr. Corwin is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of the State of California and all its lower Courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, as well as the United States District Courts for the Central, Southern, Northern and Eastern Districts of California.

Pro Bono Work

Mr. Corwin devotes a significant amount of time to pro bono legal work, which includes assisting parents of special needs and developmentally disabled children. He has also successfully fought for progressive legislation that protects disabled children in California and provides them with the resources necessary to have their basic educational needs met.

Charitable Involvement

Mr. Corwin is involved in a number of charitable and non profit organizations in the Los Angeles Community. In 2005 he served as the Treasurer of University Synagogue, responsible for management of its annual $3 million budget. Mr. Corwin also served as Co‑Chair of the University Synagogue Architectural and Construction Committees in 2004‑05, where he was responsible for the design and oversight of a $10 million remodel project. Mr. Corwin was an Eagle Scout, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Corwin is a lifetime member of the UCLA Alumni Association.

Mr. Corwin’s other charitable involvement includes the Disability Rights Education Defense Fund, Heal the Bay, Concern Cancer Foundation, American Cancer Society, Clare Foundation, Willows Community School, Marquez Charter Elementary School, Westside Gramercy Shelter, Los Angeles Free Clinic, The UCLA Foundation, Cure FD, YMCA, Jewish Family and Children Services, American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Mr. Corwin is actively involved with Vista Del Mar Child & Family Services, a 100 year old Los Angeles based non‑profit organization that is one of the preeminent social service agencies serving children and their families, with mental health problems, emotional problems, behavior problems, social problems, or developmental difficulties. Scott serves as the Co‑Chair for the Vista Del Mar Annual Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament. The Corwin Family has demonstrated its commitment to the Los Angeles non profit community by establishing and funding the Tikun Olam Program of the Miracle Project and Vista Inspire Teens at Vista Del Mar. These programs benefit special needs children and their families.

Published Author & Featured Panel Speaker

Mr. Corwin is also a published author and speaker in the consumer legal field. Most recently his article entitled “Budgeting, financial and banking issues in the solo or small practice” was published in the May 2011 CAALA Advocate Magazine. Mr. Corwin served as a panel speaker at the 2010 Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) 28th annual Las Vegas Convention at the Venetian Hotel. This past CAALA Convention was attended by more attorneys than attended the two most recent national and state attorney conventions combined; there were 1,700 attorneys in attendance. The Convention is the signature event for CAALA each year. Mr. Corwin served as a panelist on the “Business of Law’” panel. Mr. Corwin is a respected and recognized expert in the area of law firm practice management and financial administration of small law firms.  Mr. Corwin will be speaking again at the 2011 Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) 29th annual Las Vegas Convention at the Venetian Hotel.  This year Mr. Corwin’s topic will be on the subject of liens.

In order to stay current on the latest medical research, Mr. Corwin maintains memberships in the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, the Brain Injury Association of America, Brain Injury Association of California, the International Brain Injury Association and the North American Brain Injury Society. These respected national and international organizations provide ongoing education and information to their members.
